Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ITIN, the W-7 application process, and our services. Can't find your answer? Contact us.

An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a 9-digit tax processing number issued by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It always begins with the number 9 and is formatted like a Social Security Number: 9XX-XX-XXXX. It is used exclusively for federal tax purposes.

You need an ITIN if you are required to file a US tax return or claim a tax treaty benefit but are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN). This includes non-resident aliens, their spouses or dependents, Pakistani freelancers earning from US companies, Amazon sellers, LLC owners, and investors with US-source income.

A Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA) is an individual or organization authorized by the IRS to assist in the ITIN application process. CAAs can verify applicants' identity documents (like passports) and submit W-7 applications on their behalf. ITIN.PK is operated by a CAA, meaning your original passport does NOT need to be mailed to the IRS.

When you apply directly to the IRS, you must mail your original passport to them, which can take weeks to return. As a CAA, we certify copies of your documents ourselves, eliminating the need to send original documents. This is faster, safer, and far more convenient for applicants in Pakistan.

The primary document required is a valid passport. If you also have a US visa, you should provide a copy of it. In some cases (for dependents under 18), school records or medical records may be accepted. As your CAA, we will review which documents apply to your specific situation.

IRS Form W-7 (Application for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is the official application form for obtaining an ITIN. It collects your personal information, the reason you are applying, and your identification document details. We help you complete this form accurately through our online application process.

The IRS typically issues ITINs within 7 to 11 weeks from the date they receive a complete and accurate application. Processing can take longer during peak filing season (January to April). We will keep you updated on your application status throughout the process.

Yes, absolutely. Pakistani citizens can and do apply for ITINs regularly. In fact, our service is specifically designed to help Pakistani business owners, freelancers, Amazon sellers, and investors obtain their ITIN without needing to travel to the United States.

Not necessarily. The requirement depends on your reason for applying (IRS W-7 reason codes a–h). Many Pakistani applicants apply under reason code (b) for filing a US tax return, or under tax treaty provisions. During your application, you will select the reason that applies to your situation and we will guide you accordingly.

ITINs issued before 2013 and certain ITINs not used on a US federal tax return for three consecutive years may expire. ITINs containing middle digits 88, 90, 91, 92, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, or 99 have also expired. If your ITIN was issued recently and used regularly, it remains valid. We can also help with ITIN renewal if needed.

Our service fee is USD $150, charged as a one-time flat fee. This covers W-7 form preparation, document review and verification, IRS submission by our CAA, and application status updates. There are no hidden charges or additional fees.

Payment details are provided after you submit your W-7 application. We accept bank transfers and other convenient payment methods. Payment is required before your application is submitted to the IRS. We will confirm receipt and provide a payment receipt.

Yes. Because we are a CAA, we certify copies of your documents ourselves — your original passport is never sent to the IRS. You only need to provide us with a clear scanned copy of your passport for verification purposes.

Some US banks and online banking services (such as Mercury, Relay, or Bluevine) accept ITINs for account opening purposes. However, each bank has its own policies. An ITIN can significantly increase your chances of opening a US business or personal account even without an SSN.

Yes. An ITIN is commonly used by Pakistani freelancers and sellers to comply with US tax reporting requirements on platforms like Stripe, PayPal Business, Amazon Seller Central, and Upwork. These platforms often require a US taxpayer ID (SSN or ITIN) on their W-8BEN or W-9 tax forms.

Once you submit your application, we review it for accuracy and completeness. We will contact you if any corrections or additional information are needed. After verification, we prepare your W-7, certify your identity documents as your CAA, and submit the application directly to the IRS on your behalf.

The IRS will mail your ITIN assignment letter to the address you provided on your W-7 form. We will also follow up on the status of your application and notify you of any updates. Typical processing time is 7–11 weeks.

No. An ITIN does not authorize you to work in the US, provide eligibility for Social Security benefits, or imply that you are a US resident for tax purposes. It is strictly a tax processing number for individuals who need to comply with US tax law.
